Why Should You Choose LoDano’s Footwear?

Although you can go to places like drug stores, podiatrists’ offices, and orthopedic labs for this benefit, we think that our store can do a better job of providing this benefit for several reasons:

  • We have an approved Diabetic department at our location. We stock the shoes, and we fit the shoes to your feet. We won’t have you pick a pair from a catalog or a sample. Other locations often do precisely that, and they provide you with inexpensive, low-quality footwear.
  • We provide only quality shoes and are professionals in fitting and dispensing diabetic footwear and supports. S.A.S., NEW BALANCE, AETREX, DREW, FOOTSAVER, AND PROPET. We have extensive sizes and widths and many styles from all the named brands in stock for both men and women.
  • WE HAVE A DIABETIC STAFF: Medicare coordinator Mary Jo will bill Medicare and Medicare H.M.O.’s for your claim, and a certified and licensed pedorthist, Jenny, will assist with your footwear needs.
  • In addition to footwear, we carry an assortment of diabetic socks that won’t cause sores on your feet or restrict circulation. Our socks have additional padding for added comfort.

How to Get This Medicare Benefit at LoDano’s Footwear

Come to our location and have one of our sales associates show you our diabetic shoe department. We will provide you with paperwork to take to the physician who treats your diabetes. Your physician must fill out the paperwork, which must be returned to our store to file the claim. Our pedorthic staff will assist you in selecting your footwear. Medicare also requires three pairs of custom orthotics to protect your feet and provide proper arch support.

Why Does Medicare Want You to Take Advantage of This Benefit?

People with diabetes often have a condition called neuropathy that causes numbness, tingling, and burning of the feet. Having diabetic footwear and supports protects the feet from further complications like calluses, ulcers, wounds, and even, in extreme cases, amputation. Our approved footwear and supports will protect your feet and provide all-day comfort, and our footwear provides stability while walking or standing.

Why Do Medicare Recipients Return to LoDano’s Footwear Annually?

It is for all the reasons above, as well as the quality footwear and great selection we offer our customers. You won’t be disappointed with our plan or our product. This is a significant part of our business that we take seriously… not a sideline that drug stores, labs, and offices offer on a limited, inadequate basis. Our customers return annually!

What Does Your Physician Need to Do?

The doctor who treats your diabetic condition needs to be involved. Medicare requires that your physician write a detailed order for the shoes and supports and provide a Statement of Certification. We will provide you with the correct forms to take to your physician. Your physician must do an exam of your feet. There must be documentation from the physician’s medical records showing that you have one or more qualifying conditions.

Diabetic Footwear

Medicare Part B covers therapeutic shoes and inserts for people with diabetes. The doctor who treats your diabetes must certify your need for therapeutic shoes or inserts. The physician must prescribe the shoes and inserts. Medicare helps pay for one pair of therapeutic shoes and three inserts per calendar year. Medicare pays 80% of the allowed amount. Often, your secondary pays the balance. Recipients are responsible for upgraded footwear and all deductibles and co-pays incurred by their primary or secondary insurance.

How do I get therapeutic shoes? For Medicare to pay for your therapeutic shoes, the doctor treating your diabetes must prescribe the footwear and certify that you meet all the following three conditions:

1. You have diabetes.

2. You have at least one of the following conditions in one or both feet:

  • Partial or complete foot amputation.
  • Past foot ulcers.
  • Calluses that could lead to foot ulcers.
  • Nerve damage because of diabetes with signs of problems with calluses.
  • Poor circulation.
  • Deformed foot.

3. You are being treated under a comprehensive diabetes care plan and need therapeutic shoes and inserts because of diabetes.

Medicare also requires the following:

  • A qualified doctor prescribes the shoes.
  • A qualified pedorthist fits and provides the shoes.

We are here to help you through the process. Please contact us with any questions regarding diabetic footwear and Medicare coverage.
